Wist
By Mary Jo Jeffers
Fairy tales, myths, and legend
Embellished in bardic song
A melody bringing clearer
Images honored since awareness dawned.
This steadfast, primal yearning
For fey and unicorns to exist
A hunger for valor and true love
Of death overcome with a kiss.
Knights, Lords, heroic peasant class
Feudal system and castle life
Once upon a time in make-believe
Potential for happiness was rife.
Such ageless majesties built of stone
Aloof in enduring timelessness
We breathe them into our fantasies
Our vivid collective consciousness.
Practice removes our ability to see
Pixie, dragon, or chimera
But raise the castle’s enchanting mystique
Those wonders will ever draw nearer.
Mary Joe is a full-time working, proud mother of two little girls,
who still dreams of being an accomplished author one day
despite
her fourth decade looming
on the horizon.
