What is the Karma Roleplaying System?

KRS is a cooperative storytelling system that encourages storytellers and players to work together to create the world in which they play.  Using a point system that allows players enormous flexibility in designing and customizing their characters, KRS also gives storytellers more control in determining the direction of their campaign, from no magic to high magic, bronze age to space age, and everything in between.  One mechanic and one set of guidelines for whatever sort of game you want.  Use the rules that fit, ignore the ones that don't.

You can now download a
free 4 page Quick Guide to get highlights regarding the rules for the system, as well as a beta character sheet.

What makes KRS Different?

KRS requires only one die to play.  No huge dice pools.  No different dice for different situations.  Bonuses and penalties to rolls are detemined by how well the players design their characters.
FAQ's

What is Karma?

Karma is the culmination of every action we take in our lives.  Karma isn't about good or evil.  It simply is the logical result of our decisions.  Karma affects whether or not heroic healing can revive a dead character, a character's chance of reincarnation, and how "lucky" a character is.

Can I really make my own spells from scratch?

Yes.  Players that select magic abilities for their characters have spell points that they can spend on creating their own spell lists.  Players can teach each other spells to expand their spell lists, as well as learn spells from scrolls and spellbooks.

So p
layers can teach each other?

Yes.  Besides experience rewards, KRS has a training system that allows players to learn new abilities separate from their experience rewards.  Players can teach other other new abilities, or seek out trainers.

So, can I play a fireball throwing mage wearing full plate?

Sure, if you want.  But KRS is also about being accountable for the consequences of your actions.  You can create any sort of character you want, but you'll have to live with the consequences of those decisions.  There are no "dump stats" in KRS, and min-maxers soon discover survivability depends on having a well balanced character.

What is mana?

Mana is a measure of a person's magical ability.  It determines how many spells per day a magic user can cast.  Mana is also used by shapeshifters and supernatural creatures to power their special abilities.  Non-magic users can spend mana to activate magical items and unlock special powers.
